The best juicer I’ve ever had,
I used to have an ACME centrifugal juicer. I thought I would never like any juicer better than the ACME because it made good juice and was very easy to clean. The only drawback to a centrifugal juicer is it won’t extract much juice from leafy green vegetables and won’t juice wheatgrass.
I got this Omega 8005 juicer because I wanted to be able to juice greens and wheat grass as well as root vegetables. I read on a forum that this new Omega juicer is the best there is for under $400. This Omega juicer is even easier to clean than the ACME, which is a big issue because in the long run you won’t use a juicer if its a hassle to clean. And it squeezes all the juice out of anything I put in it. The pulp comes out very dry. It is super quiet too and the ACME was loud.
The Omega runs at a low rpm so it doesn’t kill enzymes and stuff like that, so its supposed to make healthier juice than a Champion or centrifugal juicer.
Its a pleasure to use. I make juice every day now. I love getting all the nutrients that I need regularly. It helps my body recover from surfing everyday.
The juicer is very well built and very simple. It seems like it will last a long time and it has a very long warranty.
You can tell that I love this juicer, eh?
Edit: It’s now 2009 and I’ve had this juicer almost five years. I still use it just about every day. I still love it. The juicing screen started to wear out a few months ago. I emailed Omega and they sent me a new one for free. They certainly stand by their 10 year warranty. I am comforted to know that if anything else should happen, I still have five more years of no questions asked replacement.

|You Are What You Drink…er…Something Like That,
 Â
What I Think
I started thinking about juicing a couple of years ago. Over time I did a little reading on the internet but never thought passed the idea of juicing more than fruit (I’ll get to why this important a little later). The cost was also a little more than scary – I always thought I could find a better way to spend $300 or $400 (the price of the “better” fruit juicers).
I’m not a health nut, but after a short hospital stay I decided I should take better care of myself. About a month ago I finally bought the Omega 8005 Juicer. Why did I choose this model? Review after review extolled its virtues and the closest competitor, the Green Star Juice Extractor, was more expensive.
This is one kitchen appliance that is well worth the expense.
Why Would You Buy This
If you are only concerned with juicing fruit this isn’t the best model for you. It isn’t so much cost, a good centrifugal juicer will cost about the same, or more. The issue lies in the straining screen. Pulpy fruits like nectarines clog the screen and you have to take the unit apart to clean it before you can continue juicing (I know this from experience). It can be done and in small quantities isn’t that big a deal. But if you never plan to juice leafy vegetables or grasses I’d look elsewhere.
If you want to juice leafy vegetables or grasses, then you need something like a gear juicer. The Omega fits the bill and is actually less expensive than some fruit juicers. There is also the issue of heat. Some juicers can heat the vegetables because they juice at high-speeds – thus reducing the nutritional value. Here again the Omega fits the bill because it’s gear mechanism turns a low rate and is actually less expensive than many other similar units. The Omega can also make nut butters, pasta, and whole host of other things; have I mentioned that the Omega is less expensive than many of its competitors
.
More importantly, though, a glass of juice from the Omega contains more delicious vegetable nutrition than I have ever had in a single serving before.
Use/Convenience
I was a little concerned about having to chop up the vegetables and the reports of “lengthy” cleaning. Well, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Depending on how much you juice at one time it takes 30-40 minutes, from washing and cutting up the vegetables to finishing up cleaning the last piece of the juicing mechanism (not much more effort than cooking the darn things in my opinion – and I still do a lot of that for dinner).
If you can clean a blender, the Omega is just as easy. I always take apart my blender to clean it, so cleaning the Omega wasn’t that big a deal – maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer.
Tips/Tricks
First and foremost, do some research. The internet is chock-full of recipes and tips. Here are a few I picked up either through research or experimentation:
1. Use bitter or pungent vegetables and fruits in moderation – unless you just love chewing on a hunk of ginger, then go for it. Roots like ginger add a nice zing, but can overpower anything else if not used sparingly. Limes add a surprising amount of flavor; I add one-quarter of a small lime – anymore is just too much for me.
2. Peel oranges and grapefruits, but leave the white “skin” just under the surface. The rinds can be very bitter to taste and apparently contain minute traces of toxins. Grapefruits fall into the “pungent” category for me. When mixing in other fruits I only use 1 grapefruit.
3. If you want to sweeten a drink, use an apple instead of sugar, even in vegetable juice. It works. Trust me.
4. Use pulpy fruit in moderation. This is mostly a cleaning issue with me. I find that I have to take apart the juicing mechanism and rinse it off for *each* piece of pulpy fruit and this gets a little cumbersome when trying to make juice in the morning.
5. It can take a surprising amount of vegetables to make 24 oz of juice. But on the flipside one glass sets you up for the recommended daily allowance for the next day or so.
6. Start your juicing regime slowly. I found out the hard way that it can have an…uh…interesting affect on your digestive tract if you go whole hog too quickly.
7. Experiment. Some mixes are better than others, but in all honestly I haven’t found one I didn’t at least like.

|I love this juicer,
I never expected that a juicer could become my favorite kitchen appliance, but here it is! Omega performs beautifully. Here’s what I’ve tested it with:
1) leafy greens (dill, cilantro, parsley, dandelion, kale, parsnip etc.): extracts lots of dark green juice; leaves very dry pulp. I haven’t tested Omega with wheatgrass yet, but given its performance with other similar-texture greens it should do fine.
2) carrots, beets: approximately half of the volume comes out as juice; pulp is pretty dry.
3) berries (strawberries, raspberries etc.): most of the volume is juice, but pulp is rather wet. I had to finish off with carrots to push the soft pulp of the berries through the juicer. It may be a better idea to blend berries rather than juice them.
4) hard green apples, oranges: lots of juice, dry pulp.
5) yellow (softer) apples, grapes: lots of juice, dry pulp, but have to use something hard/fibery at the end (carrots or beets) to push the remaining pulp out.
6) almond butter, walnut butter: these came out somewhat dry/crumbly, not as smooth as peanut butter; had to add oil.
Additional features that I like:
1) very quiet, can’t even compare to centrifugal models.
2) masticator rotates slowly, so the juice doesn’t get heated, hence less nutrients are supposed to get destroyed.
3) Omega squeezes produce cells instead of crushing them at high speed; this preserves more of the larger molecules (amino acids, vitamins etc.) thus making the juice more nutricious.
4) Omega doesn’t produce fine-crushed pulp requiring a fine mesh filter (as is the case with centrifugal models), so it’s much easier to wash. There’s no fine mesh to clean, which makes the difference between a juicer that ends up used once a year (as was the case with my old centrifugal juicer) and several times each day (as is the case with my Omega). It’s also very satisfying to see that the bulk of the produce is turned into juice and is not lost in soggy pulp.

|Omega 8006 Juicer,
 Â
I have rated the 8006 at five stars because of its efficiency, ease of use and quality of materials. The newly designed auger is a translucent black material that GE calls ULTEM. The warranty has been increase from 10 years to 15 years. The juicer probably functions the same as the model 8005 and 8002 so all of the previous reviews apply to the 8006. The power switch is located at the lower back of the juicer and allows the auger to be reversed if something would become lodged in the mastication extraction tube. The Omega auger is patented and has a two stage screen for greater juice output compared to other brands. For example, five medium sized HoneyCrisp apples produced a full quart of wonderful clear pulp-free juice. The apple juice does not turn brown nearly as fast as the juice from centrifugal type juicers due to the lower oxidation from the 80 rpm auger. There is very little foam, and the included screen can be used to filter the final product, if desired. The Omega 8006 does a great job with carrots but with this juicer as with any juicer, the smaller the items, the greater the juice extraction efficiency. I need to point out that the feed tube is only about 1.5″ in diameter. There lies the problem with large tube centrifugal juicers. They waste about 20% of the juice and this is significant when you count the price of organic produce. I use a little cutting board to slice items while the juicer pulls them in almost by itself. It works very well. I juice greens including wheat grass and parsley, which can adhere to the spinning basket of a centrifugal juicer and cause the basket to be out of balance. This happened to me with a JuiceLady JL-500 and it cracked the top of the juicer before I could turn it off. If you do not want to cut the produce into smaller pieces then this is not the juicer for you. I enjoy using the 8006 and I have yet to see a bad review of an Omega single auger juicer. Of all the juicers made, this is definitely in the top ten and some websites rate it as No. 1. I can recommend this Omega juicer with no reservations. Enjoy!

|Simple & Easy Clean up,
I had the opportunity to experience juicing on a loaned Jack Lalanne’s JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Electric Juicer, Stainless/Black. After juicing every day with it for over three weeks I realized I really was into juicing and it was not some new Gadget phase I was going through. So I did a ton of research and chose the Omega 8006.
The first thing I can tell you is this is not as noisy as the centrifuge juicer I tried (Jack L juicer). The sound is similar to an old hand mixer on low speed.
The second thing clean up took less time and was easier. Mainly the parts are smaller so they’re easier to clean thoroughly. There are no awkward nooks & crannies where food can get stuck. The Omega 8600 clean up involves four main parts. The (1) shoot the food comes down, (2) blade is really a big plastic drill-bit looking thing, (3) the part which determines is the stuff you are grinding going to come out in juice form or a more solid form (such as pasta or banana yogurt!), (4) and finally the collector bins – either or both depending upon what you are doing. It takes more time for me to get the hot water going than the length of time it takes to do the clean up for the Omega 8600.
Preparation is a bigger deal than with other juicers because the opening is much smaller. Some carrots for example had to be cut in 4ths to get it down the shoot. As one reviewer said with another Omega model, it gives you time to think about what you are preparing. The liquid output appears bolder/brighter and without foam compared to the centrifuge juicer.
It’s funny, I do notice I pause before preparing my juice to ponder would this be just as good for me if I were to sit and eat the orange, apple and carrots versus putting them into this machine and blend them. What enhances my experience with juicing is the other ingredients such as adding that bit of ginger – yum! When I was using the centrifuge, I thought more about if I had time to do the clean-up after.
The machine itself is sturdy. Having it in a place where you can add the ingredients easily rather than having it stuffed under the cabinet will enhance your access and ease of use.
I am VERY happy with the Omega 8600. It was difficult to wait the 3 weeks – I’m typically a want it now buyer. Mine showed up a few days earlier. I filled my time in cleaning out my refrigerator in preparing to integrate juicing in my diet.
See uploaded picture of my juicing station.
Finally one bit of advice.. No matter what kind of Juicer you acquire – CLEAN UP right after you juice, drink after – clean first! This prevents anything from WELDING to any parts later. Happy Juicing!

|Best Citrus Juicer I’ve Found at this Price,
 Â
We just received our Breville 800CPXL Citrus Press after the holidays and have used it several times since. Compared to the low-end (and much less expensive) plastic Krupps version we replaced (which kept tripping our GFCI), I rate this product 4.5 stars out of 5. It falls just short of perfection, but is nonetheless the most elegant and functional citrus juicer I’ve been able to find at this price point.
LIKES:
1) Beautiful die-cast design feels substantial and stays put when pressing citrus. Kudos to the industrial design team for turning a juicer into a work of art. This is by far the best looking electric citrus press on the market.
2) Brushed stainless exterior goes with any decor and looks great on countertop. No reason to store it away.
3) Removable strainer and juice basin are easy to handwash (I recommend using a small brush or toothbrush to help clean out the pulp).
4) Can press an 8-oz glass of orange juice in less than a minute and works with lemons, mandarins, oranges, and grapefruits without changing elements.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
This juicer works well and beats others I’ve tried. However, there are a few areas that Breville engineers could improve in their next model. None of these recommendations should cause you to avoid purchasing this unit, but I list them here nonetheless since there’s always room to improve most products:
1) Doesn’t handle large grapefruit as well as I’d like. Still left some juice/pulp in the skin, which I squeezed out by hand. Breville could consider offering a larger snap-on attachment more suitably sized for pressing grapefruit.
2) Sometimes the skin of the orange remains stuck inside the top of the press, requiring manual extraction. Maybe I’m pressing too hard, but this still seems to happen from time to time. On a few occasions, I stalled the motor completely which surprised me. However, stalling the motor didn’t cause the GFCI to keep tripping like the Krupps model we replaced.
3) The electrical cord is nicely designed, but a little too short. I’d prefer to see a 6′ cord to reach to the nearest outlet while allowing flexibility in where to place the juicer on the countertop.
4) If you leave the juicer out on the countertop where there’s a cabinet above, the handle (press) bangs against the top of the cabinet and requires a little finesse to pull it towards the edge of the countertop when you’re ready to use it. The typical height between the countertop and bottom of a cabinet is 18″ +/- 1″ and often the face frame of the cabinet protrudes about 1/2″ or so below the bottom of the cabinet underside. If Breville offered a locking position with the handle down, this wouldn’t be a problem and it would be easier to slide out the juicer into position from the back of the counter.
5) The handle itself seems a little flimsy when compared to the rest of the die-cast machine. While it’s functional and certainly strong enough, I would prefer a solid convex die-cast handle arm (oval cross section) versus the inverted “U” type cross section of the current design. Although the current arm does appear to be die cast, during the extraction process, juice and pulp tend to splatter on the concave underside of the handle. This makes cleaning the handle a little harder than it should if the handle cross section were convex on top and bottom.
Overall, this is an excellent product with bold design and good looks. I recommend this model to anyone who wants to add freshly squeezed citrus to your daily or weekly regimen. I can’t comment on the long-term reliability of the motor since we’ve only had the unit for a few weeks. But so far so good.

|Pretty Good for a While,
 Â
 Â
I thought this citrus juicer was very good when I got it in July of 2007. It is nicely finished in easy-to-clean stainless-steel, the lever action makes it less of a strain to get some pressure on the citrus, and it is fairly easy to clean the parts.
I make about 1/2 – 1 cup of juice daily. After a couple of months, something bent or stretched or broke in the hinge mechanism, and it became a little loose. Everything kept working though.
Well, the six month mark came yesteday, and it died. I juiced half of a lime, and when I put the other half in… nothing. I guess the internal switch that activates the motor when one depresses the lever failed.
For $160, I would have hoped that it make to the one year mark. Who knows, maybe I can get it repaired or replaced, but I can no longer recommend this juicer without reservations.

|A solid product,
(I have rewritten parts of this review as of Apr 1, 2006 after much more usage.) In summary: I am very happy with the juicer.
I was also prompted to write a review because of the person who writes about all the problems with the spout. I think I may know what the problem there is: It sounds like he juices with the spout in the up position instead of down. When juicing, the spout is supposed to be down. In fact, one of the nice things about this juicer is the spout. When you have enough juice or want to remove the juice catcher, lift the spout up and it closes off the flow of juice.
I have found the machine very easy to use and to clean. I was impressed with the cleanup. It takes me about 2 minutes — literally. Just rinse the parts, scrub the strainer with a stiff brush, and then leave to dry.
I juice a lot of lemons and I have had only minor difficulty: If the lemon is too pointy I have to cut that point off to keep the lemon from spinning in the top “cup” that holds it. I haven’t had the same problem with oranges.
I think it is a little on the pricey side. I got mine as Macy’s on sale for $135.
I also have a Black and Decker motorized citrus juicer. It is a lot more work and does not get all of the juice. The Breville gets every last drop faster and easier.

|The Omega 8003 Juice Extractor,
 Â
Customer Video Review Length:: 6:00 Mins
Hello there this is Evo and I’m offering a video review of the Omega 8003 juicer. This is an outstanding juicer and I am so glad I didn’t settle for something cheaper. Like stated in the video it has been an absolute JOY to use and have been using it daily for over a month now. With such a big warranty it is no surprise that Omega makes some of the best consumer grade juicers on the market. I hope you enjoy my review!

|Construction good – function so so,
I just got this juicer after having only used centrifugal juicers. Actually did own a champion years ago, that I’d almost forgotten about. This does a better job if you are considering one of those and the construction is equivalent. I did a fair amount of reading and made my purchase based partly on price. After having used it several times to juice carrots/apples/cabbage, I can say it does a fair job. Cleanup is quite easy (easier than the screen on centrifugal). Issues – juice volume is not what I expected. There are longer auger juicers that reviews indicated did a better job (just they were another $50). I considered the vertical auger (omega 330 and hurom) and now wish I’d spent more for them. My biggest complaint about this is the small chute (although typical for these – green star/samson/and omega all seem to have a 1.5×1.5 chute). The small chute means ALOT of chopping ahead of time. The hurom/omega 330 has a larger chute hence the wish to have spent more and gotten one of them (btw – they are same, as you’d find if you research). So in summary – easy to clean – easy to assemble and understand – feeding chute too small – volume of juice could be better – construction quality looks good.

|**UPDATED** All Around Fantastic!!!,
 Â
August 24, 2011
My husband and I watched the documentary Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and decided we were ready to make changes. I had been eyeing another Breville juicer way before seeing the doc, but after we decided we were going to go for it I started to do some serious research on machines and models. Beginning on the Breville site, we watched videos of the different models in action, then read reviews across the web and finally decided on the Juice and Blend.
Convincing my husband to pay extra for the blender was not easy but our house is on it’s third stand alone blender this year, and our current one was on it’s last legs when we were shopping for the juicer. We realized that by getting the J&B we would have two quality machines in one. I make smoothies regularly for my kids, that way I know that even if they don’t/won’t eat the best breakfasts that they’ve all had a greek yoghurt and fresh fruit smoothie to get them started in the morning.
When the Breville arrived we were EXCITED!!! We started our juicing immediately!! Kale, carrots, beets, spinach, watercress, peppers, sweet potato, celery, cucumbers etc etc etc. AWESOME!! The machine was easy to use and easy to clean–thanks to the nylon brush included by Breville. Juicing for the two of us I had to remember to empty the pulp container several times so that the vegetable flakes did not back up into the juicer. The blender is as powerful as the juicer. Quality parts throughout. I just completed a 15 day juice fast, joined the online reboot community and lost 20lbs. My hands and feet stopped swelling in the night and overall I feel really great! My husband did the juice fast for 28 days, lost 40lbs and the most significant difference for me is that he no longer snores. We have fresh grapefruit and orange juice to start our mornings, and the kids now prefer real fresh juice smoothies without the yoghurt. The machine is a monster and worth every penny. It was and is a great investment for a healthier lfe!
****Updated – October 21, 2011*****
Thought that I’d post an update for our three month anniversary!!
We are now juicing once a day and making smoothies in the blender a few times a week and The Juice and Blend is still the same
powerful machine as when it first arrived. I absolutely love both the juicer and blender. The difference the juicer has made in our lives is incredible, I cannot stress this enough. Beyond both of our expectations! The blender is the best that I have ever had the opportunity to use, quality materials, large, powerful. I have not had a problem even blending frozen fruit.
Cleaning/staining: I was prepared for stains on the Breville due to juicing beets, carrots, greens etc but did not have a problem until my husband starting making his own juices. When I juice, I immediately pour the freshly made juice into a stainless steel thermos with a tight seal cap then I empty the pulp container by removing the plastic grocery bag that I’ve used to line and catch the pulp then I rinse all pieces to remove the majority of the vegetable flakes and pop everything into a clean sink with hot soapy water. I always start by cleaning the screen blade bowl, holding it upside down to drizzle dish soap completely around the screen then I use the nylon brush in a circular motion going over both the in and outer side, rinse it off and it looks like new! (I use Ivory dish soap, little to no fragrance, like the clean). This is really the only piece that requires anything other than a quick wipe in soapy water and rinse—-unless of course you let everything sit. AHEM! Side eye at my spouse! After my husband started making his own juices, the juice jug and juicer cover with feeder tube quickly developed a permanent ‘fog’ and the screen is not the same color as when it arrived both of which I attribute to not cleaning or even rinsing the Breville immediately. However since I was ok with normal staining when we made this purchase, this is not a big deal, I just mention it as a heads up for anyone considering this machine.
Still happy and satisfied customers!!

|Pricey but worth it,
Newbie juicer here but our blender just kicked the bucket so I wanted to get something that could do both and last me a while … and look good on the countertop too. The Juice n Blend is definitely a beast .. we’ve had it for a little over a month and it has been used just about every single day since it got here. Assembly and disassembly is super quick and it churns out juice very very fast .. it’s been a top priority for my wife and I to begin adding more servings of vegetables and fruits in our diet and this has been a tasty way to do just that. The unit has worked remarkably well for juicing and the blender is simply a step above any of the blenders I’ve previously owned. It’s solid and does a fantastic job .. and again .. cleanup is a breeze.
Highly recommend for those looking to fill both those roles in one unit.
