Question by Rafael d: What type of adapters do I need in the Philippines for Hong Kong appliances?
i recently bought a Nespresso coffee machine in Hong Kong. Do I need any type of adapter, besides the one for the prongs, to use it in the Philippines
I seem to have a Type B outlet with 3 holes. Do I need an adapter with 3 prongs going into the outlet?

Answer by Shienaran
Just make sure you have an adapter for 220V which is the standard Voltage output for Philippine electrical outlets as opposed to the 110V elsewhere in the world.

I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE,
I worked in an office that had one of these and I just loved the coffee it made. So, I bit the bullet after spending five years making French Pressed coffee and purchased one of these sweet little coffee/espresso makers for my home. I will still make the French Press every once in a while, but this is so great for every day that I don’t miss the French Press at all.
To be helpful, the reasons I love this little machine are below:
1) The size is perfect for small counters. It takes up very little space and fits great in the corner where it’s out of the way.
2) It comes assembled, so all you need to do is wash the water dispenser, run some plain water through the machine a couple of times and then add the coffee capsule
3) The milk frother is THE best thing ever! It’s so simple to use. Add milk up to the minimum or maximum line, put on the lid and press the button and then let it do its thing. It makes the PERFECT milk for your espresso every single time!
4) Cleaning is a breeze – to dispose of the capsules, easily slide the front panel off the machine and remove them. They are aluminum so they can be recycled. Rinse the apparatus and then slide it back into place. It’s so simple and takes no time at all. For the milk frother, just add a little drop of dish soap, clean with a soft brush, and rinse – don’t immerse the container in water, just rinse it out, wipe it dry and put it back on its base – ready for the next use.
5) It makes a cup of espresso or coffee with steamed milk in under 4 minutes with virtually no mess.
6) The Nestle coffee pods are the best I have tasted and I’ve had plenty of them to compare to. Once you own your machine, you can go to Nestle’s Nepresso website to order all of your pods. The pods cost between .20 and .60 each and they come in boxes of ten. I buy three or four different kinds – I prefer the ones with the highest intensity levels (7 or above) because I generally enjoy strong espresso. However, the natural flavors in this coffee, whether with hints of citrus, earth, rich cocoa, or spice, are all so subtle and incredibly sophisticated that any of their blends are lovely. I also appreciate their limited edition blends.
7) Regarding pricing of the pods – each sleeve of ten costs about $6.20 – I only use one pod a day for my first cup of coffee in the morning so I’m spending roughly 21.50 a month when including shipping fees and I am completely satisfied!
I hope this review has been helpful.

|Good coffee. Convenient system. Cheapish machine.,
The coffee tastes really good. Don’t let snobs and wannabes tell you that Nespresso is nowhere comparable to espresso brewed with a Rancilio or a Gaggia. Nespresso makes excellent espressos, and the capsule system is very convenient and clean. However, the Nespresso machines made by Nestle feel cheap. They are made of low-quality plastic all around. Nespresso could charge a bit more and offer the same Essenza models in metallic casing, instead of cheap plastic.

|Best espresso machine,
This unit was purchased for my parents but we’ve had an identical one for 4 years and absolutely love it. In fact, all our friends have bought this machine after trying out ours. There is definitely more superior coffee quality out there but nothing beats the ease of use and clean up with Nespresso. It’s perfect for parents, busy or lazy people who just like to push a button and be done. I can now make coffee with one hand (while holding the baby in the other one) and then simply pop my mug in the dishwasher.

|Water reservoir is a faulty design – easy to crack,
I wanted to love this Pixie, I really did. As a Nespresso addict with a C101 and a CitiZ, this seemed like a logical next step to espresso nirvana. Lower power consumption, faster start-up times, smaller footprint – what’s not to like? Oh, and Made in SWITZERLAND too – my other Nespressos had already been outsourced to a foreign supplier.
Unfortunately, the Pixie arrived with the water reservoir already cracked. Odd since it was in the original, unopened box and also sent well by Amazon (double boxed).
On closer inspection, the cracks in the reservoir were along stress lines of the cover. Two design faults of the new model are 1. the cover of the reservoir has clips which go into the coffee maker and steady it – since the reservoir is plastic however, those stresses over time will crack the reservoir along where the clips are and 2. to keep a low profile, the reservoir base sits directly on the counter, not on a separate base (see CitiZ for better design). MORE stress every time you shift the coffee maker around to refill the reservoir or clean under it etc.
Bottom line – Pixie is going back. Nespresso needs to rethink the reservoir design – both how the clips attach and how the base sits on the counter. Not recommended.

|My New Best Friend,
I have had the Pixie in red for three weeks now. Due to several other reviews I had read on Amazon, I purposely purchased it in a local retail store for the convenience of easy returns in case it suffered from leaks or any other issues.
I am SO glad I gave it a chance. Not only is is minuscule compared to the semi-automatic machine that it is replacing on my kitchen island, but it is very fast, problem free and really a joy to use. It truly does heat up in an instant. I click the power switch and before I’ve chosen a capsule from the spinner Nifty Nespresso Coffee Carousel and popped it in, the machine is ready to go.
My kitchen is such that I don’t have to move the machine one bit to remove and refill the water tank, and the tank fits perfectly in my fridge door water dispenser. It may be that by not moving the machine much, I am not stressing its weak points – who knows. All I know is that for ME, it is fantastic and flawless.
One other potential downside, which applies to any pod or capsule machine, is acquiring and disposing of the actual pods. I was concerned about this, as I was in the habit of grabbing a bag of beans at my convenience. The machine came with 16 capsules and I ended up ordering the “welcome kit” of 200 pods directly from Nespresso (by far the best deal on capsules is directly from Nespresso) one day later the box was waiting outside my door. As far as disposing of the pods, they are currently going in my co-mingled recycling bin at the condo. What happens to them from there is anybody’s guess. At least they are packed simply – bare aluminum pods in a cardboard sleeve, no additional plastics or unnecessary materials.
Also, like many other Nespresso reviewers have complained, I am drinking more coffee (5 capsules), which I’m sure is terrible for me, but I really seem to enjoy their coffee variety and for me, .55 per cup seems reasonable for the quality and is a much better value than several of the big-name coffee bars. Also, I don’t get the caffeine jitters from the espresso, like I would from standard brewed coffee.
Again, just my personal experience, but I wanted to share my satisfaction and success with a machine that seems to have been problematic for several others. Perhaps mine is from a newer production run? Whatever the reason, I recommend it whole-heartedly.

|Great Little Machine!,
I’ve had a Nespresso Pixie for a few weeks and love it. The coffee is great and the machine easy to use. I looked at other models, but the Pixie is faster, making a cup of coffee in 20 seconds rather than the 60 seconds required by older models. It has a convenient handle that also serves to enclose and puncture the capsule and is light enough to easily carry to another room by the handle. Also, the cup support folds up so that a large cup can be put under the spout. It holds almost as much water in its container as the much larger Citiz. About the only downside is the small quantity of coffee dispensed. While not a problem for expresso, The lungo is only 3.75 oz and I like to sip a full 12 oz cup in the morning. I don’t think I want the expense of three capsules every day. So some days, I drink Nespresso, other days I make a regular cup of coffee with my old Braun. I purchased an aeroccino with the Pixie and this works quite well producing a nice froth and I have been bery happy with the capuccinos I’ve made.

|Dump Your Tassimo–Buy One of These,
After many years of being faithful Tassimo customers, we finally gave up on them: The quality of their products deteriorated until we could take it no more: The machines–we went through three of them; the coffee discs–more Seattle’s Best Henry’s Blend discs exploded than worked; the Home Delivery Service was extremely unreliable–we ran out of coffee many times because our standing order could not be filled and then we finally went two full months without a shipment because of backorders; and most recently, the varieties of coffee available has diminished and the selection is pitiful. What to do???
After much thought and investigation–because no other machine does exactly what the Tassimo machine did (make coffee and tea and froth milk from the same spout), we decided on the Nesspresso CitiZ.
What a gem of a machine! What wonderful coffee! What wonderful choices! If you read the accompanying literature and get yourself into the whole sensual experience of each small cupful–from choosing your jewel-toned disc from a beautiful, smooth, black box (like opening a box of bon-bons! seriously!)through smelling, tasting and feeling the coffee–well, it’s seriously pleasurable.
We were used to drinking large-size cups of coffee or tea before leaving for work (and we still drink our large cups of tea during the day), but realized that we often left coffee in the cup in the sink. So we took a chance on the expresso–didn’t know if we’d be able to tolerate the change to a few sips in the morning. But the change has been effortless and so rewarding: Because the coffee is so smooth and rich, it is easier and more satisfying to relish a few sips rather than big gulps of average-tasting coffee. We really didn’t know what we were missing.
If you like more mild coffee and think that expresso will be too strong for you–then you think like I did. And I was wrong and there is no reason to be afraid of Nespresso expresso and lungo (long cups–still pretty small): This great coffee is not bitter; it has a variety of fragrances, and feel, and flavors in each sip–and I’ve found that I am now leaning towards the more “intense” blends. There are two buttons to choose how much water you want to pass through each disc, and they are easily programmable, so the amount of water is up to you. And that is the reason we took a chance on this machine. But now I find that I prefer to go along with the suggested amount of water for each blend. After all, the recommendations come from experts and they know what they’re doing!
Regarding where you purchase your machine: We compared prices, cost of shipping, available specials and freebies, and we settled on paying a little more and buying it directly from the company–and bought coffee discs at the same time. Unfortunately, we were unaware that they charge tax–no matter what state you live in. So consider that when you are doing your research.
And regarding the color “Creamy White”–I saw it called “60′s White” somewhere, too: We decided on this color hoping it would match with pale yellow appliances, cabinet inserts and some retro white small appliances and kitchen gadgets. It goes very nicely. If you need “white-white”, this color will not do. This is creamy, going into very pale yellow. If you have 50′s-60′s-70′s white appliances that have started to age to a creamy yellowish, then this is the color for you.

|I finally kicked my Starbucks habit with the Nespresso Citiz.,
This is a really wonderful machine. I started researching espresso machines after I figured out that my daily trips to Starbucks were costing close to $1,000 per year. Yikes! Not only is this machine MUCH faster than your average barrista, it also makes a way better espresso.
Ordering the capsules is not a big deal and they arrive very quickly. I recycle mine with my aluminum.
This machine couldn’t be simpler and it’s saving me a ton of money. I’m beyond thrilled with my Citiz.

|Great – Consistent coffee drinks from a beautiful machine,
I stressed about buying a “pod” machine for some time. I didn’t like the feeling of being held to corporate pods and I resisted the “idiot-proof” nature of a machine like this, but I accepted the fact that I am not interested in coffee enough to master hard core barista techniques so I took the plunge with this machine.
It was a great decision. This machine is beautiful, functional, easy to use and makes fantastic espresso, cappuccino and latte drinks consistently and I highly recommend it. If you dont have access to a Nespresso Boutique for your pod purchases you can get very fast delivery from their online store with reasonable shipping (but I think it should be free).
I also debated a long time between this machine and the one with the attached milk frothing device. I decided to buy that separately because I didnt want the machine to take up too much counter space and the separate frother can be stored in the cupboard.
