Question by robbie: What is the best brand of pre ground espresso (Illy, LavAzza, etc.)? Can any of these be purchased in stores?
I have a DeLonghi pump espresso machine. I know that the best espresso can be made from recently ground beans but I cannot buy a good grinder at this time.

I would suggest that you get the Illy brand. That is what I use in my coffee machine and it absolutely tastes great. I usually pair it with capresso filters as to make the coffee come out much better. Hope this helped.

Love this grinder,
This is the best coffee grinder I have ever owned. I really like that the plastic container comes out so you can deposit the freshly ground coffee beans into whatever coffee making apparatus you have without making a mess. The lights help guide you in determining the coarseness of the grind.
There was one trick to using this grinder which would address the previous reviewers comment…which is you have to push down on the back of the top (side by the brush) and not in the center were it says “push”. If you do this you won’t have to push hard at all.

|Poorly Designed Product,
 Â
Bought this product after reading reviews of on [...]. After just the second time using it, it stopped working. A couple of other annoying features of the product are:
1. Have to press really hard on the cover to get the motor to start
2. Very poorly designed bottom dial that shows you what the setting is and how fine/coarse the grind will be.
Will never buy this product again and recommend others from doing so.

|Great for Coffee AND Spices…yes I said Spices…:),
 Â
While this excellent grinder does a great job on coffee beans, many users now use coffee grinders to make fresh ground spices (without the high cost). Many coffee grinders struggle with coffee beans alone and simply fail (or die trying) to grind the harder spices.
Using durable stainless steel grinding blades (something that many grinders do not have), the KG40 grinds coffee beans, cinnamon, basil, rosemary, mustard seed, coriander, cumin, peppercorn, bay laurels, and many other spices. These are contained in a hopper that is covered by a lid with transparent sidings allowing you to see into it to the progress so your end result is exactly what you want.
The top of the lid incorporates the switch that activates the grinder. As a safety measure and to prevent the coffee grounds and spices from getting strewn all over your kitchen, the lid has to be properly closed before the switch can be pressed and held down to start grinding. When the grounds reach the desired consistency, simply stop pressing the switch.
The hopper is removable so you can pour out the ground spice instead of scooping it. A brush, which is stored inside the body of the KG40, is supplied for a quick clean. You will need to wash it thoroughly with soap and water though if, after grinding spices, you want to use it for coffee beans otherwise you will have coffee that tastes like the last thing you ground up! I highly recommend you get 2 units so you can always have a clean hopper and you have a backup main motor unit if you need it later on after the warranty expires.
Below is my comment on the 2 star review that is posted by another user.
Why in the world would you have to trash the item when you are 1 month into a 12 month warranty? Sounds a little fishy to me. Heck Amazon would have replaced it themselves had you asked. So the question here is why would be believe anything you say when it doesn’t seem to follow logic. (For the record to my knowledge you can add to a feedback but NOT change the amount of stars given, so understand that “edit” part is a lie as well).

|Serious Coffee Lover!,
 Â
Anyone who is a serious coffee lover grinds their own coffee. What first attracted me to this grinder was the brand. I currently have a DeLonghi coffee make and just adore it. This is my first time using one of their grinders, I’m very please. It’s nice and small and can be easily placed in the cupboard. Although I don’t leave it out on the counter I do appreciate the overall appearance of this grinder. The black and clear with a hint of stainless feel sleek and modern alone with the overall shape. Like most coffee grinders the blades are stainless steel and seem very durable. I feel very safe leaving on my counter with the safety lock feature. My little tot is getting to the age of climbing on the counter so that is always a concern of mine. I think the amount of coffee it holds works well. In my experience the grinders that can hold more do not seem to handle grinding that much. I love the pop out container and included brush. The price was exactly what I was wanting to pay for a new grinder. Overall I’ve been very pleased with this grinder, much better than my old Krups grinder. I prefer finely grinded coffee and it does the job great. I would highly recommend this to any coffee lover. I have not used it for spices yet but that is a great idea and I will defiantly be trying that. I’m thinking this might even be a great Christmas gift this year. I absolutely love mine and it’s a very affordable gift. So, from one happy customer to you, this is a terrific buy. DeLonghi has a gained a lifetime customer.

|Quiet and perfect grinds,
I had a Cuisinart conical burr grinder. MISTAKE. Like others’ experiences, mine just quit after a short while. I was hesitant to buy an electric burr grinder after my Cuisinart experience. For a while I ground using a mini food chopper, then got a Mr. Coffee blade grinder. Mr. Coffee had a number of cups and fineness control both of which were essentially useless. Manually grinding and monitoring were more effective. I thought I’d try my luck and look for an electric burr grinder again. I saw the DeLonghi KG89 and decided to take a chance. It is much quieter than the Cuisinart. In fact, quieter than the Mr. Coffee blade grinder. I filled the upper container, set the number of cups and fineness, and started it. It ground the beans perfectly. I measured the output. It was exactly what I would have measured out from ground coffee. Hoping that it lasts longer than the Cuisinart. But, so far, two thumbs up.

|Not fine enough for Espresso,
 Â
If you’re grinding for a drip coffee system it’s probably good, but I bought it to go with an espresso machine and it doesn’t grind the coffee nearly as finely as the espresso setting on the free grinders that supermarkets let you use to grind their coffee in the store. Basically the coffee turns out a litte weak, so in total if you’re looking to make espresso this grinder decreases the quality of the coffee so it’s hard to see how that’s a good investment. Despite the commentary I’ve read about how burr grinder are superior to blade ones, it seems to me that a blade grinder would let me whirl the blades as long as I felt like to get the fineness desired, while this grinder is limited by the distance between the burrs so there’s no way to make it more fine. The coffee just falls through the burrs once it’s “fine enough”. To make matters worse, Amazon.com didn’t have it so I bought it through one of their associated sellers and apparently if it’s not Amazon.com who sold it you can’t return it. $80 down the tubes.

|GREAT GRINDER FOR THE PRICE!!,
 Â
Having put up with some very messy grinders, I tried this one and luv it!! Much less mess, much quieter, and easy to use. Yeah it is not a conical grinder but it does an excellent job and has a place in my kitchen!

|DO NOT BUY,
 Â
I received this machine as a christmas gift, I like having the option to make expresso/cappacino but it just didn’t work well from the start. It leaked water from the bottom and now it has just stopped working. This is my second Delonghi that stopped working after about 8 months of ownership.

|not worth the money,
 Â
I purchased this item April 27th – the espresso portion never worked right – the temperature of the espresso was lukewarm at best. The coffee maker worked fine until about a week ago. Now the coffee maker has stopped working completely after less than 90 days!

|Wonderful machine until it stops working.,
 Â
This was a wonderful machine at first. Then I slowly started seeing water on the counter…then on the floor. Now it just stopped working after 3 months. Not worth wasting the money on this. Their customer service was worthless and they have very limited repair facilities.
