The little heater I was looking for,
 Â
This is the inexpensive heater I’ve been looking for. (1) It’s fairly compact (9-1/2 w x 7 d x 10 h) and because it’s curved instead of boxy it seems smaller. (2) An unexpected bonus, finally a cord that’s realistically long – 6-1/2 feet – so I won’t need an extension cord. (3) The thermostat works reasonably well, in terms of sort of maintaining the temperature – something I wondered about in a cheap heater. Though the right setting and how well it works will probably depend on where it is (floor, countertop). And the thermostat probably can’t be expected to work well in an especially drafty location.
As others have noted – It’s quiet (though not silent). There are two heat settings, though as noted just one fan setting. The numbers on the dials are hard to read except up close.

|Best $15 I have Spent In A While!,
We moved into a new office and the building is VERY chilly…I couldn’t take it anymore so I got this little heater and overall I couldn’t be happier. I am now warm and toasty all day long! The heater is a small size, so it can fit under your desk without problem even if you sit in a cube at work. It’s also lightweight and has a lot of safety features so you don’t have to worry about burning anything down. The thermostat feature is nice because it will keep your space maintained at a constant temperature.
One “minus” is that it doesn’t really have an “OFF” switch – the red light always stays on when it’s plugged in. I agree with other reviews that the controls are also very hard to read, so you have to be up close & personal with it to get it to the setting you want. Also, the thermostat is not something you can really figure out “out of the box” – you definitely have to read the directions to understand how to use it. But those “flaws” are so minor that you shouldn’t let it influence your purchasing decision. It is TOTALLY worth every penny!

|Excellent Heater,
This heater is an excellent buy. There is really only two heat output settings. The “third” setting is the “econo” setting and really uses the two different heat settings based on temperature difference between the setting and the room. The fan is not to loud and not too quiet. It is perfect for background noise for sleeping. The safety cutoff switch when the unit tips over works just as described when I tested it. The displayed temperatue setting and other lights are fairly bright and bothered my wife when while we slept. I put a couple of layers of translucent tape over it and it took care of that problem. The stand does not have adjustable height. Ceramic heaters are also safer because their elements do not get glowing hot like most heating elements. When this is combined with the safety cutout, it is much safer than the older style units.

|Warm and quiet, a good combo!,
 Â
 Â
I purchased two of these units. One for a home office that is approximately 10 x 12 with 9 foot ceiling and the other one to be used in various other rooms of the house as needed. For the unit in the office, it is the perfect size and does a great job of keeping the room warm. I like the fact that the unit does not get hot to the touch if accidentally touched and that is is fairly quiet. It does have an “Econ” button on it which changes the fan speed from low to high as needed, a nice touch. It has a big bright display that is easy to read from anywhere in the room. Also comes with a handy remote control, not necessary, but a nice to have.
I did try the other unit in our family room which is a large 15 x 17 with 15 foot ceiling and the unit really did not warm the room at all, which I didn’t expect it would. So know the limitations of the unit. Even still, in the big room the heater did take a slight chill out of the room, but not enough to justify it running non-stop for several hours.
The unit has a sleek modern design and does not take up much space. I’m really happy with the units.

|Excellent heater… until it didn’t work anymore.,
UPDATE (12/3/2011): I only got one winter season out of this device. I pulled it back out this winter and something was wrong with it. It was nice while it lasted.
-I have owned this heater for 3 months now. I bought this product, because my master bathroom is always cold, especially in the morning. My wife would get up early and not be able to stand the low temperatures. This heater has cured that problem. My wife sets the timer so the unit turns on around 15 minutes before she wakes up and the bathroom is nice and toasty when she gets in there. She is ecstatic!
-The digital temperature reading on the unit represents the temperature you want it to be, not the actual temperature. This unit does not show that.
-The timer cannot be set for an actual time, but rather in terms of ‘how many hours from now that you want the unit to start up’. It is quite a bizarre way to handle the timer feature, but it gets the job done. The down side is that you have to set it every night if you go to bed at a different time. My wife doesn’t mind.
-It is worth noting that our master is very small, so I have no idea if the heater can perform well in a larger room.
-The remote is very handy, because you can tuck the unit away in a corner and manage it from afar. Note that there must be a direct line of sight between the unit and the remote for it to work. The remote is also very limited,
-I like the fact that you cannot burn yourself (to the touch) on the unit. Good feature for kids.
-The unit has a built-in handle at the top to pick it up and to sturdy it while changing settings on the unit itself. Smart feature.
-The unit makes so little noise. The only problem I could see someone having with it is the confirmation beeps. I kind of like them considering they are telling you whether everything is working right.
I give this 5 stars for what my wife needs it for, but I can see others giving it less for the unit’s limitations. Though I will say that most heaters on the market have far more limitations/problems.

|Great Heater, a little loud, but good for white noise at night. NOT like a personal hair dryer as a reviewer said
 Â
I live in South Dakota, and for those of you who don’t know- it can get VERY COLD here. Right now we’re having a little “arctic blast” as the weather service calls it and our high temp today was -1 degrees Farenheit, with wind chills 30-40 below. We have a nice, but older 1960′s home with old insulation and windows, plus hardwood floors which makes it harder to keep the rooms warm. This heater is a new model for Delonghi, so there weren’t any reviews out there when I bought it so I took a chance on it, and I’m glad I did. It kicks out alot of heat, has a programmable thermostat, and has the option of oscillating which spreads the heat around quite well. As far as the loudness goes, yes it is a bit loud for some people, but certainly not even close to a hair dryer!! . But you do get used to it and its great for white noise if you need that to sleep at night. The only thing I dislike about it is that it beeps every time you change a setting, or move it, which is a little annoying. Overall I like this heater VERY much, it puts out alot more heat than our other Delonghi- the DCH1030 (smaller, non-oscillating, no remote, not programmable)- and even that one is a good heater. We use the DCH4590ER in the evenings after work in the living room while keeping the house thermostat at about 67 degrees. When its time for bed we move it to the bedroom and set the house thermostat set at 62 degrees to save on gas. In the bedroom we set the DCH4590ER’s thermostat set at 67, sometimes 66 degrees, and we are very comfortable under our down comforter. We put our Delonghi oil filled heater in the living room at night for the cats. It keeps the chill off the room nicely and keeps the house heat from kicking on as often. The trick to using these heaters is to not expect them to warm up an ice cold room instantly. It won’t happen. But if you just want to keep your house thermostat set lower to save on your heat bill, and use these as supplemental heat sources, they are great. I will update this when I get my next months bills and see if these electric heaters saved me any money.

|Works Well For Us!,
 Â
 Â
I have an elderly family member with a lower-circulatory problem and limited mobility, so we needed something to heat localized areas of the house to keep her comfortable. This space heater remote controlled, adjustable thermostat filled the requirements perfectly. Unlike other reviewers, I have no problem with the fan noise — it’s a small unit and has to “blow” the air — not terribly loud, but noticeable, definitely not a deterrent for us. The added safety feature (turns off when tipped over) works and has saved us from a couple of mishaps (inadvertent bumps with the wheelchair). It works well in relatively small spaces, heats in seconds, and has proven to be very reliable so far. I’m considering one for the home office (for use in the cooler mornings/evenings).

|Deafening,
 Â
Everything about this heater sounds great: 24 hour timer, digital display, remote etc… But there is one drawback I should have noticed that was omitted from the desciption — The Noise. This tiny heater is about as loud as a personal hair dryer.
A shame it’s this loud because it cancels out every other redeeming factor. I returned mine for a refund. 2 stars.
