Great Toaster,
After many years of having a toaster oven, I finally got sick of the mess of it and decided to go with a toaster instead. My husband actually picked this one because of reviews he had read on it. I love several of the features on it. You have a defrost cycle for your frozen items that works perfectly on bagels. Then there is the bagel setting that only toasts the inside parts of the bagel, which keeps the crust soft. While I will admit it took several tries to figure out the way to put the bagels in for this feature….once you get it …you’ll love it. I finally have perfect toast, bagels and waffles. I also love to crumb trays….so easy to clean.

|It’s OK,
My old DeLonghi finally broke after many years of good service, and I wanted another 4-slice toaster in stainless steel, so naturally I selected this one. It’s OK but some earlier reviewers were correct — it tends to toast the bread a little too light, and I don’t mean only frozen bread or bagels. It’s adequate and I love how it looks, but I keep it on the highest setting and sometimes have to pop the toast back down for a second time.

|great toaster, great price,
Looked at all the expensive $250+ toasters and decided to take a chance on this one, it has performed perfectly! (got free super saver shipping) Put in 4 slices and they all come out toasted the same, defrosts bagels perfectly, clean design and the blue leds are cool. Knobs at first looked like plastic (really smooth finish), but are metal (cast zinc, I think) as advertised. Replaces my 8 yr old 2 slot Delonghi that was crome plated and showed signs of rust (kept it next to the sink), but after 8 yrs it still worked perfectly.

|Avoid,
My attraction to this toaster was the adjustable width feature & that actually works pretty well. The down side is that this thing doesn’t toast evenly . Each side has a band across the middle that gets toasted more than the top or bottom & it tends to burn the edges of the bread in this band. Also, one side is toasted at a much different level than the other side.
At this price level, I feel these issues make this toaster unacceptable.
On the plus side, it seems well constructed & the exterior stays cool.
I would not buy this again!

|Good idea, poor quality.,
My wife and I have been on a, to date, futile search for a toaster which actually does what it is supposed to do, properly toast bread. We have purchased and tried/tested about 10 different toasters and they have all been, more or less, disappointments as toasters. It seems that toaster manufacturers are more interested in style and fancy electronic functions than in producing a toaster which properly toasts bread to various degrees of doneness evenly. Most toasters require toasting at maximum then, when that cycle completes, immediatley continuing with an additional cycle of somewhat shorter duration because the maximum setting is inadequate to produce dark but unburnt toast in one maximum setting cycle. I ascribe this problem to two causes, underpowered and wide slots which keep the heating elements too far from the sides of the bread.
When we came upon the DeLonghi DTT312, and saw how the slot is variable and that the heating element moves with the variance of the slot width, we thought we’d finally found a toaster which would properly do what it’s supposed to do, toast. We were also impressed with the potential ability to heat and toast a variety of breads, bagels, buns, sandwiches, pannini, etc. I was a bit concerned that it is only 800W in Canada (the Kenwood brand in the U.K. is 1075W and its a lot cheaper there, as low as 25 British pounds) but, because the element on one side moves with varying the slot width, I thought that would compensate for the relatively low power/heat. Anticipating that we’d found the Holy Grail of toasters, we bought it. We were like expectant parents, the removal of the toaster from its box was like the birth of a baby with all the hopes for the toaster being successful. I plugged it in, it turned on with a gentle chime, its first sound. I turned the toaster on by pressing the 3 wavy line setting and looked into it. I observed that some of the heating strips didn’t glow at all and the strips that did glow glowing had small loops sticking out randomly at various points which glowed very red/hot with parts which didn’t glow much. I thought, oh oh, potentially uneven toasting. I cut two identically thick pieces from a whole wheat loaf of bread and gently fed the toaster its first meal with the controls set to their recommended settings. After a short while, another gentle chime emanated from the toaster signalling the toast was ready. I pulled the lever upwards and discovered that the toast was inadequately toasted. I looked in the manual again and decided that the manual was incorrect, it had recommended setting the heat too low, two wavy lines, instead of higher, 3 wavy lines, for non-pre-sliced bread. I toasted two more slices at the higher heat setting which worked but the toast is unevenly toasted, the left slice was starting to burn at its left edge and both were more toasted a bit more in the middle than at their bottoms and tops. I was somewhat disappointed. I hadn’t found the Holy Grail of toasters, just a variation on the theme of toasters which don’t properly toast. I don’t know if it is this particular toaster which has a manufacturing defect in that some of the heating strips don’t work and that the quality of all of this model’s heating elements/strips is inconsistent which causes parts of them to bulge out and get hotter than the rest of the parts of the strips which continue to lie flat but are not as hot both of which cause uneven toasting. I am taking this toaster back and will try to get the store to plug in another one to see if it has the same problems. If it doesn’t, I’ll exchange the one I’ve got for it. If If it does, I’ll be requesting a refund and just use my energy wasting but evenly toasting “toaster” oven.

|It pays to read the manual,
If you’ve done your homework with the reviews on the Amazon site, you know that you can buy a very decent toaster for under $30; so I resisted buying this one because of the price. But we’ve now toasted enough bagels, English muffins, and bread slices with the DeLonghi DTT312 that I’m convinced the higher price was worth it. You’ll get precise control over how light or dark your bagel/muffin/slice comes out, provided that you take a few minutes and read the directions in the manual. It’s a pain to give up and read the manual, but it can pay off. One example: look at the photo of the DeLonghi toaster in the Amazon listing: you’ll see 4 buttons in a vertical array on the front panel of the toaster. If you want to toast a slice or two of bread, push the third button from the top. If you want to toast a sliced bagel, face the sliced surfaces to the front and push the second button from the top. DeLonghi evidently feels that only a barbarian would want both sides of a bagel to be toasted: when you push the “bagel” button, only the elements on the front side light up. Your bagel will be nicely toasted on the cut side, and untoasted on the bottom. But if you try the bagel setting on sliced bread, you’ll see where some of the complaints of “uneven toasting” come from. Take a minute or two to read the instructions, pop in a couple of slices of bread or a sliced bagel, and you should be as happy as we are with this toaster.

|Bad from the get go.,
I am amazed at all the reviews for toasters on Amazon. I am not alone out here trying to find one that works on a regular basis. I too was tired of buying a new cheap toaster every year or so and getting poor results. I decided to go for a more expensive unit and picked this Delonghi. First, be aware that the toaster I received has a huge black “Delonghi” printed on the surface below the buttons. It takes up almost the length of the toaster. I chose the unit for its clean look and this is really distracting. As with the cheap toasters, it does not toast both sides of the bread evenly. Is there any toaster that does? On the second use, the electronic toast darkness setting stopped working. When you plug in the toaster, it resets to 3. You could go down to 2 or 1 but then you could not go up again. You can unplug it and get back to 3 but there was no way to get it to 4, 5 or 6. The other issue I found with it is if you set something on the counter and just barely tap the toast button, it will start toasting. I must have set it off three times when I set groceries on top of the counter and I was not even aware it was toasting until I burned my hand on the surface. It is going back today.

|Very Nice toaster,
I have had this toaster for about week. I used Oroweat Original Oatnut bread for this review. The toaster works perfectly. I have not had any of the problems described by the one star review here.
It has 6 lights for the browning control. I use the default, which is 3 lights. The fourth one is a little too dark for my taste. When you put your slices of bread in, you have to push a button for them to go down. The audible beep that serves as an 8 second pre-done warning is very low. If you were across the room or talking to someone when it went off, it might be easily missed. When your toast is done, it slowly rises up and you have to take both slices out if you don’t want the second slice to go back down while you’re buttering the first. It really doesn’t matter on that because all you have to do to get it back up is press the same button you pressed to start it. The toasting time for an 800 watt toaster is slow. With the 3 light setting, it takes 3 minutes to toast one or two slices and 4 lights takes 3 minutes and 40 seconds. The heating ribbon for the most part, does not glow red while toasting. This, I figure, will prolong the life of the heating ribbon but the trade off is slow cooking. The other “con” is that on the 3 light setting, the toast is little too light for me and the 4 light setting is a little too dark. Because of the cooking time on 4, the bread seems a little dry. The toast itself toasts evenly after the first few uses. Overall, I like the toaster and I’m going to keep it. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond and ordered it from a local store. They waived shipping for me and had it sent to my house. They have a wonderful return policy and send a UPS return label in the box.

|Toast size matters,
With my last 3 toasters I have had to rotate the toast half way through toasting to be sure the top 20% of the slice was done. This time I decided to get the toaster with the largest toasting depth. Unfortunately that dimension is not defined in any toaster specs. that I could find. Therefore I visited every store appliance store in our area and measured the effective toasting depth on every display model. Most toasters have a toasting depth of 4.0 ins. to 4.25 ins. The DeLonghi has a toasting depth of 5.0 ins. I bought it and my toasting problem has been solved.

|Awful Toaster!,
This replaced a Krups toaster that found it difficult to toast anything evenly. After dealing with this ridiculous toaster I wish I’d kept the Krups. Not only does this not toast anything evenly- it doesn’t toast anything consistently! Further, the high profile and high heat it generates started melting the upper cabinet melamine surface so it has to be moved out from under the cabinet before toasting!

|Does not toast evenly,
I have always liked Delonghi toasters. But, this one does not toast the bread evenly. One side of toast is not toasted when the other side is ready. I have to change bread sides during the toasting process and this is cumbersome.
